In Frederick County

Working across Frederick County

Frederick County wraps around Winchester and covers a lot of varied ground, from established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions near the city out to farm country and wooded slopes toward the county edges. We have worked all of it, and the approach changes depending on where you are.

We run west on Route 7 out of the Berryville shop and we are at the Winchester line in about twenty minutes, and not much more than that out to Gore or Cross Junction.

Close to town the constraint is space. Tight lots, neighboring structures, and overhead utility drops mean most removals happen from the bucket in roped sections. Out past Apple Pie Ridge and up along Route 522 the constraint is scale, meaning bigger trees, longer access, and more ground to clean up.

We bring the same equipment either way, but we scope and price the two situations differently because they genuinely are different jobs.

Recurring work throughout the county.

  • Mature shade trees overhanging homes in established neighborhoods
  • Structural pruning on younger trees in newer developments
  • Ash decline from emerald ash borer, widespread across the county
  • Bradford pear failures once the trees reach size
  • Field edge and fence line clearing on rural properties
  • Storm hangers and downed trees after wind and ice events

How We Get In

Getting a truck in

Town lots

In the subdivisions ringing Winchester the lots are tight and the setback between houses is often narrower than the bucket truck needs. We look first at whether we can reach the tree from the street or the driveway. Where we cannot, a man climbs it and we rope the wood down in small pieces, and the estimate says so before you agree to anything.

Farm gates and lanes

Out toward Stephenson, Clearbrook and Gore it is farm gates and long gravel lanes instead. We measure the gate and walk the lane before we promise a date, because a chip truck that cannot turn around at the bottom is no use to anybody.

Soft ground

County ground stays wet well into spring, especially the low side of a yard or a field lane that holds water. We will not run a loaded truck across soft ground just to save ourselves a walk. Sometimes that means waiting a week for it to dry, and we would rather tell you that than leave ruts you have to fix yourself.

Utility drops

Service drops running to the house get treated as a real hazard, not a nuisance. We work around them every week. If a tree is into a primary line, that is a utility job and we will tell you so.

What leaves with us

The wood and the brush go on the truck and leave with us. The chipper and the track loader work right behind the saw so the yard never gets buried, and the last thing we do before we head back east on Route 7 is rake the area down. You should not be able to tell we were there except that the tree is gone.

What stays if you want it

If you want the chips left for your beds or the wood cut to length and stacked for firewood, say so at the estimate and we will drop it where you want it instead of hauling it home.

No travel charge

Frederick County is part of our normal service area. Gore and Cross Junction cost the same as Stephens City.

What it costs to look

Nothing. Estimates are free and the number is set before a saw runs. It does not change once the work starts.

How fast we can be there

We are open 24 hours. When a tree comes down at two in the morning you get a person, not a machine.
